Everybody has a story.
But not everybody realizes the power sitting inside of theirs.
For years, I thought parts of my life were simply chapters I wanted to close.
I had spent 20 years in a marriage that ultimately ended in divorce. My youngest son left home to join the Army. I lost my six-figure corporate career. I moved somewhere I barely knew anyone.
And suddenly, the woman who had always figured everything out didn’t know what came next.
I wasn’t thinking about branding.
Trust me. 😂
I was thinking about surviving.
But as I rebuilt my life and my business, something happened.
I started realizing that the things I had walked through weren’t just experiences.
They had given me a message.
You don’t have to have a fancy title to have something valuable to teach.
Sometimes expertise comes from education.
Sometimes it comes from your career.
And sometimes it comes from living through something, figuring it out, and turning around to help the woman coming behind you.
Ask yourself:
What have I overcome?
What have I learned?
What do people constantly ask me for help with?
What could I talk about for an hour without preparing?
What do I wish someone had told me five years ago?
Pay attention to those answers.
There may be a brand hiding inside them.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions I see as a marketer.
Your colors are not your brand.
Your fonts aren’t your brand.
Your logo isn’t your brand.
Those things help people recognize your brand.
Your brand is what people associate with your name.
When somebody hears your name, what do you want them to immediately think?
That’s the question.
For me, Pink Door isn’t simply about publishing books.
It’s about helping women realize that their story matters—and giving them the strategy and support to turn that story into something bigger.
This is where things get FUN.
Your story can become your message.
Your message can become a book.
Your book can establish your authority.
That authority can create opportunities.
Speaking.
Coaching.
Courses.
Consulting.
Workshops.
Media.
Collaborations.
Clients.
And suddenly, the thing you thought was “just your story” has become the foundation for an entire brand.
That’s why I tell aspiring authors all the time:
Don’t just think about publishing a book. Think about what you want that book to DO.
Where should it lead the reader?
What should they know you for?
What problem can you help them solve next?
THAT is strategy.
You don’t need the entire business figured out today.
Start with one sentence:
“I want to be known for helping __________ do __________.”
Then ask yourself:
What part of my story gives me the experience, credibility or passion to help them do that?
There’s your starting point.
Your story isn’t random.
Your experiences aren’t useless.
And you don’t need another ten years of credentials before you’re allowed to share what you know.
Sometimes the business you’ve been trying so hard to create begins with finally recognizing the value of what you’ve already lived.
Your story is the beginning.
Now let’s give it a strategy.
Ready to turn your story into a book?
Pink Door Marketing & Publishing helps aspiring authors take the story that’s been sitting in their heart and turn it into a professionally published book-and a strategy for what comes next.
Your story deserves more than “one day.”
