What Do You Want to Be Known For? How to Find Your Signature Message

There’s a question I ask women building brands that sounds incredibly simple:

What do you want to be known for?

And you’d be surprised how difficult it can be to answer.

They’ll tell me:

“Well, I’m a coach.”

Okay-but there are thousands of coaches.

“I’m an author.”

Wonderful-but what do you write about?

“I help women.”

Girl, WHICH WOMEN? 😂

That’s where your signature message comes in.

What Is a Signature Message?

Your signature message is the core idea people begin associating with you.

It’s the intersection between:

Your story + your experience + who you help + what you believe.

You don’t need to talk about only one subject for the rest of your life.

But people need an entry point into your world.

Start With Your Story

Look backward.

What have you experienced that changed you?

What did you have to learn the hard way?

What do you understand today that you wish you’d understood five years ago?

Now here’s the important part:

Don’t stop at what happened to you.

Ask:

What did it teach me?

Because your audience doesn’t only need the story.

They need the lesson inside the story.

Find the Transformation

Great brands aren’t built only around information.

They’re built around transformation.

Ask yourself:

Where is she now?

And:

Where can I help her go?

Maybe it’s:

Overwhelmed → Confident

Invisible → Visible

Idea → Published Author

Employee → Entrepreneur

Story → Book

Book → Business

Lost → Purposeful

Your brand becomes clearer when you can explain the transformation you provide.

Create Your One-Sentence Message

Try this formula:

I help [WHO] go from [CURRENT STRUGGLE] to [DESIRED RESULT] through [YOUR METHOD/EXPERTISE].

For example:

“I help women who know they have a story to tell go from aspiring author to published authority by helping them write, publish and strategically market their book.”

Now we know exactly who we’re talking to.

Your Book Should Reinforce Your Message

This is where authors sometimes make a mistake.

They write the book first…

…and try to figure out what they’re going to do with it afterward.

Instead, ask:

What do I want this book to establish me as an authority on?

Because your book can become one of the most powerful credibility tools in your business.

It can lead to podcasts.

Speaking opportunities.

Media.

Clients.

Coaching.

Courses.

Workshops.

Partnerships.

But that becomes much easier when the book connects to a clear message.

Consistency Creates Recognition

You don’t need 50 messages.

You need one strong message expressed in 50 different ways.

Tell the story.

Teach the lesson.

Share the tip.

Create the Reel.

Write a blog.

Send the email.

Go Live.

Talk about it again.

And yes…

AGAIN.

You’re going to get tired of your message long before your audience does. 😂

Eventually, something beautiful starts happening.

People hear a problem and think of you.

Someone says they want to write a book and their friend says:

“You need to talk to Tina.”

That’s brand recognition.

And it doesn’t happen accidentally.

It happens when you decide what you want to be known for-and consistently show up around that message.

So I’ll ask you again:

What do YOU want to be known for?

Your answer may be the beginning of your entire brand.
