Stop Posting Randomly: How to Create Content That Actually Builds Your Brand

One of the biggest misconceptions about content marketing is that you need more ideas.

You probably don’t.

You need more strategy behind the ideas you already have.

Because posting consistently isn’t the same thing as building a brand.

You can post seven days a week and still leave your audience wondering:

“What exactly does she do?”

Every Piece of Content Needs a Job

Before creating content, decide what it’s supposed to accomplish.

Some content should connect.

Tell stories. Show personality. Share experiences.

Some should educate.

Teach something your audience can immediately use.

Some should establish authority.

Show your knowledge, experience, methodology, results and point of view.

Some should create conversation.

Ask questions and invite people into your community.

And yes…

Some should SELL.

Because we’re running businesses over here, not extremely expensive hobbies. 😂

The problem happens when there’s no strategy connecting any of it.

Create Content Pillars

Once you know your signature message, choose 3–5 subjects that support it.

These become your content pillars.

For example, an aspiring author coach might use:

Storytelling

Writing

Publishing

Book Marketing

Building a Business From Your Book

Now she isn’t waking up every morning wondering:

“What in the world am I posting today?”

She has categories.

Turn One Idea Into Multiple Pieces of Content

Let’s say today’s topic is:

“Three reasons aspiring authors never finish their manuscripts.”

That could become:

A Reel.

A carousel.

An email.

A blog.

A Live.

A Facebook post.

A podcast conversation.

A TikTok.

A Pinterest graphic.

And next month?

You can revisit the exact topic from a completely different angle.

This is called repurposing.

And no, it’s not cheating. 😂

It’s smart marketing.

Tell Stories

Information teaches.

Stories make people remember.

Instead of simply saying:

“Consistency is important when building a business.”

Tell me about the season when you weren’t consistent.

What happened?

What did you learn?

What changed?

What do you do differently now?

Suddenly you’ve taken something your audience has heard 500 times and made it yours.

That’s the power of storytelling.

Your Book Is a Content Gold Mine

And authors…

PLEASE hear me on this.

You already have months of content sitting inside your manuscript.

Every chapter can become multiple posts.

Every lesson can become a Reel.

Every story can become an email.

Every quote can become a graphic.

Every framework can become a carousel.

Your book isn’t something you should mention twice during launch week and then put on a shelf.

Your book should become part of your content ecosystem.

Talk about the ideas inside of it.

Teach from it.

Tell stories around it.

And consistently point people back to it.

Stop Trying to Go Viral

I’d rather have 1,000 people who know exactly what you do than 100,000 people who watched one funny Reel and couldn’t tell me what your business is.

Virality can create attention.

Consistency creates recognition.

And recognition is incredibly valuable when you’re building a business.

The Goal Isn’t More Content

It’s more intentional content.

You don’t need to say everything.

You need to become known for something.

So before you create another post, ask yourself:

Does this reinforce what I want my brand to be known for?

If the answer is yes…

Post it.

If the answer is no?

Maybe it doesn’t need to become business content.

Your audience doesn’t need more noise.

They need to hear your message clearly and consistently enough that eventually, when they need what you provide…

your name is the first one they remember.
